Personality: Alfons is a kind, open minded young man. Within reason. He was more than willing to room with Edward even though for all he knew, Edward was insane. He listened to his stories and humored him, and tried to gently coax him into accepting ‘reality.’ This sort of behavior isn’t just for Edward though, as he also allowed a gypsy girl stay in his home despite all the prejudice his other friends felt for her people. Judging by the crowd of people at his funeral, including gypsies who weren’t with Noah later, and Gracia’s attitude, it was probably something of a habit. Though none quite so long as Edward.
He’s also very good with people. Despite Alfons being the youngest of his rocketry group, he was the one to talk to Hess about funding for their project. He’s empathic, well mannered, tries not to talk down to people, and is extremely patient. While Alfons did feel the anger at the government as some of his other Germans, but he never placed the blame beyond them, still treating gypsies and the Jewish people the same as he would anyone else.
Alfons also doesn’t like to worry others. He hid the fact he was gravely ill from Edward and there were many times where he hid his hurt feelings and sadness behind a smile. Even when he was sending Edward away, he smiled for most of the exchange, only showing his real feelings briefly. Not that Alfons can always maintain this, usually showing something more real when the pain becomes too much and he's too tired to do it. Or he's repressed so much he finally snaps as he did at Edward for his constant treating him as a dream. He can be somewhat passive aggressive before his snapping point.
One of the biggest things is Alfons wants to be remembered. He wants to do something great and leave his mark on the world. A desire that often put him in conflict with Edward because it was obvious Edward was refusing to acknowledge this world or the people in it. It may have even pushed him to try harder to be remembered, along with the realization he was going to die soon. He could accept his death, so long as his memory could live on. Unfortunately this desire did lead to questionable decisions, such as working for people with very questionable motives. Something he acknowledges as a mistake. While he wouldn’t do anything evil to be remembered, those sort of circumstances can tempt him.
He’s also very good at adjusting to absolute insanity. When he realized that Edward was not, in fact, crazy, he quickly rolled with his changing situation. He saw his mistake and while he knew he couldn’t do anything to actually stop the Thule society, he decided he could at least do one right thing by his friend and let him go home. All he asked was that Edward remembered him because that’s all he wanted. That he was important enough to be remembered. Even if it couldn’t be the world, which had become clear wasn’t going to happen, then at least by someone he deeply cared for. Even if it meant he’d die earlier than expected, he could be content enough with that.
He’s extremely intelligent, and he has a deep love of space and rockets. He can become obsessive and totally lose himself in his work. He wasn’t ever as bad as a certain roommate, but missing meals isn’t something that’s unheard of for him. He's overall just very curious and loves to learn and hear stories.
Since he does know that dragons and other worlds are a thing, he’s a lot more open minded to crazy talk. While he’d still like a bit of proof, he’s not so quick to just dismiss it as crazy talk.
Abilities/Powers: Genius level intellect. He was studying rocket science, a whole new field of study, at fifteen and was an official rocket scientist by seventeen. Math, physics, engineering, chemistry, astronomy are all things that come easy to him.
Also has a good grasp on those various sciences involved with rocket science, though he is limited by being from the 1920s.
He knows how to cook, clean, and all sorts of house work things.
He works very well under pressure and is surprisingly quick to adjust when his life goes completely and utterly insane.
He’s also very good with people, being the spokesperson for his rocketry group.
He knows how to box. He used to be good before he got sick, and fell out of practice when it was getting hard to breathe. (Headcanon, but it seemed fitting an alternate Elric would know how to fight.)
Items: His clothes (with now bloodstained shirt), wallet with ID and money, keys, and a pocket watch.
